***I appreciate everyone in the district having patience with the snow day on Monday. I typically don’t like to call school off during the morning hours, but the weather surprised us from the night before. I understand the hardship this causes with children, childcare, and outside work arrangements. Again, I appreciate your patience and understanding. Have a great week Russell!*** Each week I will highlight some of our opening day themes: #10--Your intentions and goals are clear. I know what I’m getting, and I’m never concerned about any ulterior motives. RIS Mission: Our mission is to inspire and empower all students to reach their maximum potential: one student, one lesson, one day at a time. Things I CAN Control…

Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) This was a great week at the Russell Area Technology Center as we continue to see exciting activities throughout the building. Our 2nd period Introduction to Health Sciences students had the opportunity to collaborate with Ms. Del Valle’s AP Spanish students this week on a project as they discuss culturally competent care of patients, including the ideas of both culture and language. This is an awesome collaboration between these two programs and we really appreciate both of the teachers working so hard to plan this activity and the hard work the students have put forth in making it a success. We look forward to seeing more of this collaborative effort into next week as they continue to develop the project and discuss the content of this subject. Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) Mrs. Moore's class has continued their study about puppies. They made a visit to Petland this week to look at the puppies and other animals. They were able to pet some puppies, see snakes, and look at fish. Mrs. Crump's class learned about snakes this week. They learned about different kinds of snakes and where to find them. They also made some snakes in their classroom using yarn and play dough. Mrs. McKee and Ms. Snyder's classes spent the week learning about bears. They made a cozy den for bears to sleep in and I even found some bear prints in the classroom! What’s happening at central office / district this week?

“Believe you can and you’re halfway there.” --Theodore Roosevelt Each week I will highlight some of our opening day themes: #9--The vision compels you to greatness. Not the opposite—“your greatness compelling the vision.” Many leaders get this backwards. Continue to focus on the RIS four core beliefs: It’s about Kids! —Accountability—Transparency—Communication. Positives across the district……….. Russell Primary School (From the desk of Mr. Cassity) We had a great week of learning at RPS. Our students were so very excited about President Trump's Inauguration! It's been a great opportunity to learn about the responsibilities of our president. Our students and staff did an outstanding job during our Lockout Drill on Tuesday. MAP Testing is underway, and all students are doing their very best to show us how much they've grown!! We can't wait to celebrate the 100th day of school next week!! Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) Some of our students in the Computer Aided Design class have been working with a local volunteer fire department to brainstorm and plan for ideas to be used in building a new station. This has been a great experience for our students both in practice with designing and planning and with communication with those in the community. We appreciate the continued support like those on the fire board who have allowed our students to gain these great experiences and for our teachers and students who work well with those in the community to allow for these opportunities. We look forward to seeing this continued partnership and the work that results from their collaboration. What’s happening at central office / district this week?

Russell Primary School (From the desk of Mr. Cassity) A great week of learning for our students this week! Every class in our school will now have at least 5 of their own iPads in their rooms! REEF has supplied many IPads already, so PTA added to it by purchasing an additional 40 IPads. These will be used for many programs and activities throughout the day. Our students are very excited!! Our PTA rocks!! Russell-McDowell Intermediate (From the desk of Mrs. Wright)

Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) This was another great week at RATC this week. Our students continue to work hard in our classrooms and prepare themselves for upcoming industry certifications and for their future endeavors using these skills. As you can see below, they spend extensive amounts of time practicing their skills so they can then apply them to real-world situations. We appreciate the hard work that our students put forth in our classrooms and labs. There are many job opportunities awaiting students who work to master the skills in programs such as welding, and we look forward to continuing to see our students enter the workforce and represent us well in their field. Our attendance was pretty good for the week with several days above 96%!! Several students (and teachers) were spotted doing a snow dance on Thursday night. Needless to say, it was a quiet day at RPS on Friday. Russell-McDowell Intermediate (From the desk of Mrs. Wright)

Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) We had a great week back at RATC this week. Our student organizations are preparing for regional competitions, as students will represent us in FBLA and SkillsUSA. Both of these organizations provide awesome opportunities for our students to develop leadership roles and to collaborate with students from area schools.
