If you have a positive attitude and constantly strive to give your best effort, eventually you will overcome your immediate problems and find you are ready for greater challenges.—Pat Riley Congrats to RMIS! Governors Cup Champions! Go Devils! RIS Mission: Our mission is to inspire and empower all students to reach their maximum potential: one student, one lesson, one day at a time. Keep in mind the main points discussed from District Opening Day: Things I CAN Control…
Continue to focus on the RIS four core beliefs: It’s about Kids! —Accountability—Transparency—Communication. Positives across the district…… Russell Primary School (From the desk of Mr. Cassity) Great to see little ones back in the classrooms at RPS! We had a busy week back:
Russell-McDowell Intermediate (From the desk of Mrs. Wright)
Russell Middle School (From the desk of Mr. Moore) Will Scott (8th grade) and Duncan McGinnis (6th grade) qualified for National Geography Olympiad during the History Bowl competition last weekend in Paintsville. They are eligible to complete for the national title in June in Chicago! Congrats! Last year, Ms. Francis nominated Autumn Jeffrey, to attend at National Young Leaders Conference. In the spring of 2015, she attended a nearby conference and loved her experience over the four days. As an alumna of the National Young Leaders State Conference, she was selected to attend the 2017 Presidential Inauguration Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. from January 18-22, 2017. She attended workshops, seminar discussions, and presentations associated with the inauguration to broaden their perspective on local, national, and global issues facing young people today. Russell Middle School received a grant from UCAN Inc. (United Communities to Advance our Neighborhoods) This grant is being used to bring in the exhibit- From the Emancipation Proclamation to Civil Rights Era. Russell High School (From the desk of Mrs. Chaffin)
Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) The students and staff made it a great week, as always, here at RATC. We are entering into our leadership conferences and competitions within the next month and they are working hard to prepare and raise money for these opportunities. This past weekend, several of our FBLA students, along with Mrs. Wilburn and Mrs. Phipps, participated in a fundraiser with the support of Pennington’s Food Fair and saw great success. We are always appreciative of the support of our community sponsors and the hard work and dedication of our students and staff here at RATC! Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) We learned about Presidents this week and finding Presidents on money. We learned the value of penny, nickel, dime, and quarter. We sorted money based on value and then got to spend it in our classroom store! Finally, we completed a science experiment involving cleaning pennies! Preschoolers are feeling better and we are glad that they are back to school. :-) What’s happening at central office / district this week?
It’s a great day to be a Red Devil! Have a great week Russell! Sean

Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) We had an awesome week this week at RATC. We continue to see tremendous growth in our students and appreciate the hard work of them and our teachers each day! This week the students in Mrs. Phipps’ marketing class had the opportunity to satisfy their sweet tooth but only with a cost, as they were studying supply and demand. It’s always great to see our students enjoy themselves while learning these important concepts. We have 50 students who are preparing for regional competition with FBLA. This is a huge number, and we appreciate the experience!

Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) The students and staff had another very productive and wonderful week at the Russell Area Technology Center. We continue to appreciate the tremendous support by our local community to assist us in providing the best education for our students. We want to thank Bellefonte Hospital for the donation of several resources that will assist us in further educating our health sciences students. This week they donated to us nine electric hospital beds, a transport chair, and two tray tables which will all be used in the training of our students, and are necessary for the testing of our MNA students. We also want to thank the district maintenance staff for their assistance in bringing all of this equipment to our building. It is a true blessing to our school, our teachers and especially our students to have such wonderful support surrounding us! Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) Preschoolers watched a video of Punxsutawney Phil on Groundhog Day and were very excited that he did not see his shadow! They are ready for Spring and more opportunities for outdoor recess. Next week will be learning about the mail and how it works. We will conclude with our Valentine's Day parties on Thursday. Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) Our week was great at RATC, as we continue to see our students grow and become more successful in our classrooms and labs. We had the honor this week of being joined by the Board of Education, and many other wonderful members of the Russell family and community to help celebrate the completion of our construction. We want to thank each of these individuals for their continued support of the Russell Area Technology Center and for patience in working with us during this time of great improvement for our students! We are blessed to have an awesome staff and tremendous students who will greatly utilize these new opportunities. As you can see below, we also had some of our students who joined us to welcome those in attendance and assist in our celebration, and we appreciate them volunteering their time. Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) This week Preschoolers had a blast exploring their five senses. Students performed taste, smell, and touch tests. Next week we plan to explore the concept of shadows through a groundhog theme. We will definitely be watching to see what Punxsutawney Phil thinks the next six weeks are going to bring! We were chosen by KDE to participate in a Preschool Public Service Announcement!! Several of our students were videotaped!!! We can't wait to see the finished commercial!!! We will be hosting Preschool Valentine Parties on Thursday, February 11th. What’s happening at central office / district this week?
