Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) Our electricity students have had the opportunity to apply their knowledge through a real-world project right here in our building. We have seen some impressive work by some of our more experienced students as they wire these circuits and understand the requirements of jobs in the real world. We are lucky to have instructors who have recently worked in their respective fields, and we appreciate their ability to bring these important employability and job-related skills into our classrooms and labs. We also received some awesome pictures from our visit to AK Steel a couple weeks ago! We appreciate them providing these for us to document this great trip they planned for our students. Below is one of the pictures, as Mr. Spainhower provided them with further information concerning the inspections that take place within the facility. Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) Preschoolers have enjoyed a busy week with sequencing our story, Room on the Broom, decorating witches' cauldrons, making Witches Brew, & counting witches, candy, cats, & cauldrons. We ended our week with our Halloween parade & party!! What’s happening at central office / district this week?

Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) Students from our business program had the opportunity to attend the APES seminar through the Greenup County Extension Office this week. This is a great series of events for our students that allow them to learn from local community members. In addition, there is also the possibility of scholarship money, which one of our students obtained last year. We are very lucky to live in a community that is passionate about the education of students, and we appreciate events like the APES program that bring the two together. These students will have the chance to attend two more of these seminars this month, with the third session giving them the opportunity to tour multiple businesses in the area. Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) Preschoolers have been busy this week! We had a visit from the Fire Department and learned that firemen are our friends! We also got to see the fire truck! We have had LOTS of fine motor practice creating spider web necklaces, tape mummies, and writing our names using white boards, magnetic boards and pipe cleaners!! Mrs. McKee received literacy materials from an AEP grant. They used a variety of actions and sounds to explore drama, one of our Arts and Humanities Early Childhood Standards! They read the book The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything, making the motions/actions and sounds with the book. They also made jack-o-lantern cookies like the jack-o-lantern in the book. Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) Students from our marketing program had the opportunity on Friday evening to travel to Kings Island to participate in their Marketing Education Day. Students had the chance to attend the seminar led by members of the theme park’s marketing team, joining other students from around Ohio and Kentucky. They were then given some time to enjoy the park before their return home. The marketing program is still new to our school, but in its short time it has given our students a different perspective on the business world through engaging with the community. We appreciate Mrs. Phipps searching for new opportunities for these students that they can use to enhance the learning that takes place in their classroom. Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) Some Preschool classes made the trip to Imel's this week! We always have a wonderful time!! We discussed pumpkins, all of the things we saw at Imel's, and fed the goats!! We also focused on the standard KECS Math 1.2.1: Recognizing some basic shapes. We looked for shapes down the hallway, outside, on the playground, etc. We made shapes out of candy corn! We also made shape monsters using different colors of construction paper with cut out circles, rectangles, squares, and triangles. One of our kids wanted to cut her circle in half to make ears so we talked about a half circle, which was a great learning experience for them! Mrs. Grizzle's new materials from our Area Education Grant, Being Unique Makes Us Complete, sparked a lot of interest in the dramatic play center this week. Our students named their new friends Frankie, Jack, and Penelope. The conversations & vocabulary development that occurred as a result of the materials included how we are all unique but the same in many ways, mutual respect, & caring for our neighbors!! Thank you Area Education Grants & PNC Bank for making this project a reality!! What’s happening at central office / district this week?

Russell-McDowell Intermediate (From the desk of Mrs. Wright) Today was an amazing day at RMIS! Riley Roark, the RMIS spelling champion, competed at Old Fashion Days against Greenup area spelling winners. Riley won! She is the spelling bee champion for the entire county of Greenup! Way to go Riley! Riley will have the opportunity to advance to the next level in Lexington! This week was also very bittersweet as we said goodbye to longtime RMIS secretary Marsi Fullen. We are excited for her to start her retirement but will greatly miss her sweet presence in our front office. Students covered her office with special notes and the staff honored her with a Roadhouse dinner and lots of gifts and well wishes. Good luck to Miss Marsi as she prepares to move south, sit by the ocean, and enjoy life! Russell Middle School (From the desk of Mr. Moore)

Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) Our FBLA students entered a sheet in the homecoming competition this week. We were very proud of the hard work and collaboration they demonstrated as a team as they created their sheet. It is always fun to see our students share ideas while having fun with these activities. We appreciate all of the teachers and school officials who work so hard to give our students these great opportunities and make the homecoming festivities a lasting memory! Mr. Fields attended training to become an NCCER Certified Instructor this week. By completing this training it will allow his students to complete this industry recognized certification while still students at RATC. In addition to this training, he also became a certified OSHA-10 instructor, which will allow us to provide this certification to over 100 students this school year. We appreciate our teachers constantly putting in work to be able to provide new opportunities for our students! Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) This week our math standard 1.2.1, recognizes some basic shapes, sparked some great conversations & observations regarding shapes in our world. We read the book, The Shape of Things, & then found shapes in the block center, art center, on our food containers during meal times, in our school building, & on the playground. We read about Spookley the square pumpkin this week! We cut open a pumpkin to see what was inside! We counted seeds, made Spookley using a square graham cracker, icing, eyes and a stem (talking about shapes) made different kinds of pumpkins and painted them! We had so much fun!! Mrs. Bevis’ students began this week. They spent time learning about each other and practicing the classroom routines. We celebrated the arrival of Fall this week with sorting leaves by color, painting outside with leaves, singing the Five Little Scarecrows & I'm a Little Scarecrow, observing pinecones & wood chips, & identifying the letters/letter sounds in the word, Fall. We also continued learning about apples. We worked together to build our Apple Market. Students were so excited to show anyone that entered our classroom what they had built. We had conversations about apples, examined the inside of apples, counted apples and apple seeds, sang about apples, “sold” apples at our new market, and had an apple tasting day!
