On Friday, May 20th, Russell participated in its first track & field day for all special education students! It was a wonderful day full of smiles and fun! Senior Evan Boggs took beautiful photos of the event! See them here!
RHS 3 Billion Faces Club hosted its 3rd Annual Mr. Russell Pageant! Congrats to our winner, Derick Tompkins!
From Col. Maggard: RHS ROTC successfully took and brought back 59 students on a four day trip to Washington, D.C. Of the 59 students, 36 had never been to our nations capital before. Three of our four adult chaperones also hadn't seen the capital. With the exception of some intermittent rain and drama (something ever present in high school), it was a perfect trip. We told our cadets they had to bring $35 to pay for 7 of their ten meals, and that we would pay for three of their meals. What we didn't tell them was that we had transferred some USAF money around so we could pay for nine of their ten meals, so their TOTAL COST for the trip was $5. This allowed them to use the $35 they brought for souvenirs (even then three of our students didn't have the $35, so a friend of mine sponsored them so they could have spending money). During our one evening and two days in D.C. we toured 16 sites and saw one from outside the fence: Monuments/Memorials Buildings Saw Lincoln U. S. Capitol White House Washington Arlington Cemetery Iwo Jima U. S. Supreme Court U.S. Air Force Library of Congress Pentagon (9-11) Union Station (train/metro) M. L. King, Jr American History Smithsonian Korean War Natural History Smithsonian Vietnam War World War II We started with the Iwo Jima Memorial and ended with the Changing of the Guard. It's never gets old seeing the looks on their faces when they see the Lincoln Memorial for the first time! All-in-all it was a great last trip for my Russell career. rom The DAILY INDEPENDENT Design An Ad, Write An Editorial, and Friendship Drawing About The Contest Design an Ad Contest is part of the Newspapers in Education Program and is sponsored by The Daily Independent.
