Russell Independent is proud to celebrate our students, staff and community with the latest State Assessment Results. The Kentucky Department of Education must meet federal requirements for identifying the lowest performing schools for Comprehensive Support and Improvement and those schools that qualify for Targeted Support and Improvement. Schools that exceed cut scores are classified as Other this year.
Russell Primary, Russell-McDowell, Russell Middle, and Russell High have exceeded all state cut scores and each school has earned the Highest Distinction Category of Other as defined by the Kentucky Department of Education. Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) Mrs. Grizzle's Class We read “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” this week. We learned another finger play, Five Little Bears. We went on a bear hunt, created bear collages, made a shape book, & story necklaces. Our culminating event for the week was a teddy bear picnic where we brought our favorite stuffed animal!! Mrs. Delong and Mrs. Stephens' Class This week we ended our study on apples. We taste tasted red, green, and yellow apples and picked which one was our favorite. We ended our study with an "apple celebration", we got to try apple hushpuppies, apple butter, apple chips, apple fritters, apple donuts, and apple cider! Mrs. Moore's Class We read Corduroy and painted our first initials with watercolor. We learned the nursery rhyme Little Miss Muffet! What’s happening at central office / district this week? September Board of Education Meeting—TONIGHT!!!!! Monday, September 24, 2018 at 6:00 PM in the Central Office board room. This is an open meeting and a great opportunity to learn what is going on in the district. Great leadership opportunity!

Over 30 students are receiving intense intervention using this faculty and staff driven intervention! • Lunch Bunch started today. Many students earned their way to a mini celebration of sorts as they ate lunch with Ms. Crager. • We had over 600 grandparents join us for Grandparents’ Day. Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) We welcomed the first full week of preschool with meeting new friends, center time, gross motor time on our playground, learning the Five Little Monkeys, singing "The Wheels on the Bus", stories about our friend, David, & lots of time practicing the procedures!! We are learning procedures in the building and in the classroom. We are also learning about our new friends in our classroom. What a GREAT week!
