Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) We had an AMAZING turn out for our first Week Of The Young Child Family Night! The bleachers were full of families!!! Families watched our little ones perform songs, strolled through our art gallery, made some spring crafts, and visited the book fair! We had many exciting activities this week, and many pictures are posted on our preschool social media pages. This week we kicked off our month long study of Fairy Tales!! During circle time, we read, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, & acted it out to retell it; sang, "The Fairy Tale" song; did Yoga & other gross motor movements with fairy tales; & recited the finger play, The Five Little Sheep. We created castles with our castle blocks based off of pictures of European castles in the block center; played in our dramatic play castle; worked castle puzzles, built with castle gears, & played with a castle in the fine motor center; counted jewels on crowns in the Math center; decorated crowns & built shape castles in the art center; read fairy tales & fractured fairy tales in the library; & played with some new alphabet activities in the literacy center. We also added some new materials in our Science center. We added a collection of wood chips & seashells & a butterfly specimen kit. We are excited about our caterpillars arriving soon!! Students in Mr. Parsons’ PLTW classes have been working hard this week to design vehicles with a set of predetermined supplies. This culminated on Friday, as they tested them to see which group created the vehicle that would travel the farthest. This was a great activity to not only focus on design and production, but also the very important skills of communication and teamwork. We appreciate the work that goes into planning these types of critical thinking experiences that mimic what students will face in the field! Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton)

It’s a great day to be a Red Devil!! Have a great week Russell! Sean Russell Family,
On March 23, 2018 our Intermediate School hosted a "Donuts with Dads" event and on March 30, 2018, our Primary School PTA hosted a “Donuts with Dad” event. Today, I was made aware the facility we purchased the donuts from had an employee diagnosed with Hepatitis A. We have contacted both the facility where the donuts were purchased and the Ashland-Boyd County Health Department. The diagnosed employee was not involved in the making or packaging of the donuts that were part of the Primary & Intermediate School event. The Health Department has indicated to us that the likelihood of contracting Hepatitis A from this exchange is “almost zero”, however, I still wanted to make you aware of what has occurred. Further information is also available from the Ashland-Boyd County Health Department at 324-7181 or the Greenup County Health Department at 473-9838. The safety of our school community is our number one priority. If you have any questions or concerns please contact my office at 836-9679. M. Sean Horne Superintendent Welcome back Russell!! I hope everyone is relaxed and ready for the stretch run. This time of year is critical for the success of our students. Please continue to encourage good attendance and preparation to close out the year on a great note. I also want to commend everyone for their support of each other over the past month. The last month across the state has been a very stressful time for ALL! Your commitment to our state and to our district has been remarkable and has not gone unnoticed. Thank you for your efforts and support! If I can be of assistance to you, please don’t hesitate to let me know. Have a great week……..Go Devils!
