RIS Mission: Our mission is to inspire and empower all students to reach their maximum potential: one student, one lesson, one day at a time. Keep in mind the main points discussed from District Opening Day: Things I CAN Control…
Continue to focus on the RIS four core beliefs: It’s about Kids! —Accountability—Transparency—Communication. Positives across the district……….. Russell Primary School (From the desk of Mr. Cassity) Students had a great week back after a restful Spring Break. Here's some exciting news from RPS from this week:
Russell-McDowell Intermediate (From the desk of Mrs. Wright)
Russell Middle School (From the desk of Mr. Moore) 1. National History Bee is an academic competition for elementary and middle school students that tests knowledge of various historical topics. In October, students participated in a school level on-line qualifying exam. High scoring students advanced to regional competition held Tuesday, April 12 at Shanahan Middle School in Columbus, Ohio. Students scoring the minimum score from regional competition advance to national competition in Chicago, Illinois in June. Sixth Grader Duncan McGinnis was the overall elementary History Bee champion at the Columbus regional competition. He advances to Nationals and has also qualified to compete in the National Geography Olympiad. Eighth Grade student Will Scott qualified for National Geography Olympiad as well as National History Bee. Seventh grade students Will Prater, Cole Murray and Jackson Raich all placed in the top 8 at regionals and competed in the Championship round. These students, who are also members of the Russell Middle School Social Studies Academic Team, also qualify to compete at the National History Bee. See some pictures and learn more about the National History Bee here. 2. RMS Students took Greenup County Conservation Art Competition top spots:
3. YMCA contacted Ms. Wolfe (They hold the KUNA conference) with some great news! After all of the middle school KUNA's concluded, they evaluated all speakers and participants and decided that Josh Griffith was an outstanding participant The Y has asked that he return as Security Council president. This is a huge deal considering how many students attend this conference! 4. Attendance has been fabulous with Eighth Grade having 100% on Wednesday Russell High School (From the desk of Mrs. Chaffin)
Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) We have really enjoyed this week at RATC, with our students preparing for and many already passing industry certifications to take with them as they move into the next stages of their lives. Several of our welding students are preparing for their welding certification exams that they will take through the next few weeks here at RATC. As you can see below, Zach Williams worked through several practice rounds this week and has been receiving guidance on his work from Mr. Runyon. Our SkillsUSA students have also spent the last half of the week in Louisville competing in the state SkillsUSA competition. Mr. Parsons and the members of the team have worked hard preparing, and we know they have represented us well during their time in Louisville. Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) We had a very busy week learning about life on a farm. The Kentucky Farm Bureau brought Gertie the Cow to visit so the students could learn about how a cow produces milk and to milk the cow. We also got to see rabbits and piglets. We are also very happy about the addition of the safety barriers around our playground and the students enjoyed watching as they were installed What’s happening at central office / district this week?
It’s a great day to be a Red Devil! Have a great week Russell! - Sean
