This will be the last superintendent weekly note of the year. I want to “Thank” each and every person for making Russell Independent schools a great place to work and learn. Without so many people doing the “little things” that matter…Our kids would not have the experience they do. On behalf of the RISD Board of Education and myself…..THANK YOU! Each week I will highlight some of our opening day themes: Vision Statement #3--Our Parents are supportive partners and are essential in the advancement of each student. RIS Mission: Our mission is to inspire and empower all students to reach their maximum potential: one student, one lesson, one day at a time. Things I CAN Control…
Continue to focus on the RIS four core beliefs: It’s about Kids! —Accountability—Transparency—Communication. Positives across the district……….. Russell Primary School (From the desk of Mr. Cassity)
Russell-McDowell Intermediate (From the desk of Mrs. Wright)
Russell Middle School (From the desk of Mr. Moore)
Russell High School (From the desk of Mrs. Chaffin)
Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) We want to take an opportunity this week to congratulate Austin Patton and Lathyn Myers for passing their state welding certification exams. These two students have worked hard to learn this important trade during the time they have been in high school and it paid off with this opportunity for them. We look forward to seeing how they use these certifications and the other skills they have learned moving forward. We always love to see our students leave us with credentials that are recognized by employers and appreciate the work the students and our instructors put in to help them be in these positions. Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) This week we enjoyed another nutrition class from the Greenup County Extension office. We also enjoyed our first preschool field day!! We are looking forward to the final three days of preschool!! It has been an amazing year!! What’s happening at central office / district this week?
It’s a great day to be a Red Devil!! Have a great week Russell! Sean

Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) Students in our business and health sciences classes had the opportunity to meet with Janet Thompson from ACTC today about their Medical Information Tech program. We appreciate ACTC for their continued communication with our students concerning opportunities that are available to them as they transition into the future. ACTC is a tremendous partner for each of our programs and we are excited to continue to grow those partnerships and create new opportunities moving forward! Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) This week we transformed our dramatic play center into a grocery store & market with a market, groceries, produce, a shopping cart, shopping baskets, cash register, & receipt book. Our nutrition classes from the Greenup County Extension Office continued this week also. They provided us with a wonderful snack of fruit kabobs too!! With Spring finally in the air, our butterflies have hatched & we are in the final week before our chicks hatch!! We ended our week with a Derby Party complete with a stick horse race, hats, derby pie, & the Disneyland version of mint juleps!! We are looking forward to our first Preschool Field Day next Wednesday!! What’s happening at central office / district this week?
