I would like to take the time and thank each and every person that makes our district a great place to live, work, and learn. You provide support and education to ALL of the kids that walk through the doors each day. I appreciate all that you do for RISD! I wish you ALL a very, Merry Christmas and Holiday season! --Sean Each week I will highlight some of our opening day themes: Vision Statement #4—Our community shares our desire to develop highly skilled and productive citizens. RIS Mission: Our mission is to inspire and empower all students to reach their maximum potential: one student, one lesson, one day at a time. Things I CAN Control…
Positives across the district……….. Russell Primary School (From the desk of Mr. Cassity) We had an awesome week at RPS. Students and staff participated in our Christmas themed days all week. Students shopped for their families at the Penguin Patch. We had a great turn out for our Festival of Trees, which included a performance by Pre-k, a craft center, hot cocoa and cookies, and a visit with Santa (students were also able to write letters to Santa) The trees were silent auctioned with the proceeds going to PTA and all the many school activities/programs they help to support!! Congrats to our Chick-fil-a Students and Staff of the Month! Russell-McDowell Intermediate (From the desk of Mrs. Wright)
Russell Middle School (From the desk of Mr. Moore)
Russell High School (From the desk of Mrs. Chaffin)
Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) Students from our health sciences pathway had an awesome opportunity to demonstrate their skills during the regional HOSA meeting on Tuesday. The really great thing about this competition is that they are demonstrating their knowledge through written and hands-on activities to future employers and college instructors. As a career and technical center, it is our role not only to teach students the content we are assigned, but also to put them in a position to be successful in their future careers. What better way to do this than to allow our students to demonstrate their knowledge in front of those prospective employers from here in this community and throughout the region?! We appreciate Ms. Layne and all of those educators who take great pride in both teaching their course content and providing opportunities that help our students plan and achieve their path to success. The results from this conference were:

Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) Students in our business law and management classes had the opportunity to visit with a community member this past week. Greg Gibson, who is both an umpire for Major League Baseball and a member of the staff at our local State Farm office, took the time to discuss the contract he and the other umpires have with MLB. He discussed with them how and when the contract is negotiated, the terms of the contract, and how changes that have occurred over time have impacted him. This was a great learning experience for our students and we appreciate him taking time out of his busy schedule to bring this real-world knowledge into our classroom. Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) We have quite the team of preschoolers in Room 207!! We took a virtual field trip to see real reindeer on a farm. We read reindeer books & discussed the characters & setting. We spelled reindeer & sang, “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” & “Reindeer Pokey” focusing on letter Rr, the /r/ sound, & alliteration with the sound. We played reindeer games to practice our gross motor skills & following directions. We created a Christmas collage & had more practice with Christmas counting!! We ended our week with a Reindeer Dress Up day!! We aRe ready for the holidays in Room 207!! What’s happening at central office / district this week?

Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) Students in our business classes have been working hard on their industry certifications in Microsoft Office Systems. Students in this program have already obtained 32 total certifications this year. We appreciate their hard work on this industry-recognized certification process that will benefit them as they move into their future. We also appreciate the work Mrs. Phipps has done in assisting these students in preparation for this exam. Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) Run, run as fast as you can to Room 207…it is gingerbread week in preschool!! We read a variety of gingerbread books & discussed the characters & setting in each one. Then we graphed our favorite book. In the dramatic play center, we have our own gingerbread house & bakery. In the art center, we created gingerbread collage & decorated our artwork with gingerbread stickers. In the math center, we counted LOTS of Christmas items like Christmas trees, bows, gingerbread men, cookies, stockings, candy canes, ornaments, Christmas counting puzzles, & Christmas counting books.
