Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) Mrs. Grizzle's Class We read “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” this week. We learned another finger play, Five Little Bears. We went on a bear hunt, created bear collages, made a shape book, & story necklaces. Our culminating event for the week was a teddy bear picnic where we brought our favorite stuffed animal!! Mrs. Delong and Mrs. Stephens' Class This week we ended our study on apples. We taste tasted red, green, and yellow apples and picked which one was our favorite. We ended our study with an "apple celebration", we got to try apple hushpuppies, apple butter, apple chips, apple fritters, apple donuts, and apple cider! Mrs. Moore's Class We read Corduroy and painted our first initials with watercolor. We learned the nursery rhyme Little Miss Muffet! What’s happening at central office / district this week? September Board of Education Meeting—TONIGHT!!!!! Monday, September 24, 2018 at 6:00 PM in the Central Office board room. This is an open meeting and a great opportunity to learn what is going on in the district. Great leadership opportunity!

Over 30 students are receiving intense intervention using this faculty and staff driven intervention! • Lunch Bunch started today. Many students earned their way to a mini celebration of sorts as they ate lunch with Ms. Crager. • We had over 600 grandparents join us for Grandparents’ Day. Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) We welcomed the first full week of preschool with meeting new friends, center time, gross motor time on our playground, learning the Five Little Monkeys, singing "The Wheels on the Bus", stories about our friend, David, & lots of time practicing the procedures!! We are learning procedures in the building and in the classroom. We are also learning about our new friends in our classroom. What a GREAT week! First and second grade students are doing a great job of modeling how things should look at RPS, and Kindergarten students are catching on quickly. One word will give you clarity and focus." Preschool Staff have worked together using Jon Gordon's book One Word That Will Change Your Life, to find a focus word for Preschool for this year. Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) We want to take an opportunity this week to congratulate Austin Patton and Lathyn Myers for passing their state welding certification exams. These two students have worked hard to learn this important trade during the time they have been in high school and it paid off with this opportunity for them. We look forward to seeing how they use these certifications and the other skills they have learned moving forward. We always love to see our students leave us with credentials that are recognized by employers and appreciate the work the students and our instructors put in to help them be in these positions. Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) Students in our business and health sciences classes had the opportunity to meet with Janet Thompson from ACTC today about their Medical Information Tech program. We appreciate ACTC for their continued communication with our students concerning opportunities that are available to them as they transition into the future. ACTC is a tremendous partner for each of our programs and we are excited to continue to grow those partnerships and create new opportunities moving forward! Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) This week we transformed our dramatic play center into a grocery store & market with a market, groceries, produce, a shopping cart, shopping baskets, cash register, & receipt book. Our nutrition classes from the Greenup County Extension Office continued this week also. They provided us with a wonderful snack of fruit kabobs too!! With Spring finally in the air, our butterflies have hatched & we are in the final week before our chicks hatch!! We ended our week with a Derby Party complete with a stick horse race, hats, derby pie, & the Disneyland version of mint juleps!! Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) We had an AMAZING turn out for our first Week Of The Young Child Family Night! The bleachers were full of families!!! Families watched our little ones perform songs, strolled through our art gallery, made some spring crafts, and visited the book fair! We had many exciting activities this week, and many pictures are posted on our preschool social media pages. This week we kicked off our month long study of Fairy Tales!! During circle time, we read, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, & acted it out to retell it; sang, "The Fairy Tale" song; did Yoga & other gross motor movements with fairy tales; & recited the finger play, The Five Little Sheep. We created castles with our castle blocks based off of pictures of European castles in the block center; played in our dramatic play castle; worked castle puzzles, built with castle gears, & played with a castle in the fine motor center; counted jewels on crowns in the Math center; decorated crowns & built shape castles in the art center; read fairy tales & fractured fairy tales in the library; & played with some new alphabet activities in the literacy center. We also added some new materials in our Science center. We added a collection of wood chips & seashells & a butterfly specimen kit. We are excited about our caterpillars arriving soon!!
