Each week I will highlight some of our opening day themes: Vision Statement #1—Our Students are our top priority! RIS Mission: Our mission is to inspire and empower all students to reach their maximum potential: one student, one lesson, one day at a time. Things I CAN Control…
Continue to focus on the RIS four core beliefs: It’s about Kids! —Accountability—Transparency—Communication. Positives across the district……….. Russell Primary School (From the desk of Mr. Cassity) Great week at RPS! Students and teachers celebrated the 100th and 101st days of school this week!! Kindergarten and first grade students made shirts and paraded for all the school to see. We had 30 students who earned Lunch Bunch tickets this week and attended their mini celebrations with Ms. Crager. Lastly, it was awesome to see so many students and staff dressed in blue and orange on Friday in support of Marshall County! Russell-McDowell Intermediate (From the desk of Mrs. Wright)
Russell High School (From the desk of Mrs. Chaffin)
Across the state, we had 4 students place in the Top 10 overall:
The team will be competing at the 2018 Regionals, hosted by Russell HS on February 17.
Russell Area Technology Center (From the desk of Mr. Trimble) The students of RATC continue to not only work hard during class, but also in activities outside the classroom. SkillsUSA members are working to prepare for their regional competition later this month, and FBLA members continue to work toward their competition that will take place in March. Our students benefit so much from these Career and Technical Student Organizations, as they are able to take their content from their classes and extend upon it while competing with others throughout the region. Each of our teachers have a role in these organizations and in assisting these students with their preparation and growth in these areas. We also want to take a second to brag on another group who makes their home here at RATC. The band is preparing for their KMEA performance, and it has been very impressive to see the time and hard work they continue to put into their preparation, something they do almost daily throughout the year as they prepare for each of their different activities. It is awesome to see so many students extending their school day to engage in activities they love and to be learning such important information all at the same time. Educating our kids is not only about what takes place inside classrooms, but it is also about these extra and co-curricular investments that help grow the entire student, and we appreciate the many adults who take the time to engage in these investments, not just in this building, but throughout the entire campus! Russell Preschool (From the desk of Mrs. Staton) This week we continued our Science exploration of light & shadows with our newest STEAM challenge: we planned & then created a robot out of our hollow blocks. We turned off the lights & then traced the structure's shadow on a large piece of bulletin board paper with a flashlight. We also added a super cool apron that shows us what is inside of our bodies to our Science center. Our newest classroom job of veterinarian has quickly become a class favorite, as the job requires feeding our bearded dragon, Spike. We are looking forward to next week's STEAM challenge of the old school volcano. Science is so much fun! What’s happening at central office / district this week?
It’s a great day to be a Red Devil!! Have a great week Russell! Sean
